Excerpt from Davar Beito: A Word in Due Season, Relating to the Divine Service
In submitting the following work to the notice of the English Public, it may be well to mention that its title was originally announced as "Hours of Devotion." That, however, was not sufficient to indicate the scope and intention of the book. It has been therefore thought advisable to substitute the present title - "A Word in Season" as being more appropriate to the aim of the publication, which is to aid in promoting the moral instruction and religious edification of the domestic circle. The reflections, herein contained, are intended to heighten a truly sanctifying, pure Jewish devotion, wherever its heavenly flame yet shines; to spread its Light, wherever ignorance of the pure unobscured word of God keeps the mind as in a mist; and to excite warmth and animation, where indifference and vain worldliness have chilled and incapacitated the heart for the loftier objects of life.
