Excerpt from The Traveller, or an Entertaining Journey Round the Habitable Globe: Being a Novel and Easy Method of Studying Geograhy
The following little Treatise is intended to facilitate the Study of Geography, - at least the introductory or simple parts of it - by the combination of amusement with instruction; and to engage the attention of Youth, as well by the familiarity of the language employed, as by the fiction of a rapid Journey over the surface of the Earth. It consequently differs from the generality of Elementary Treatises, by being divested of the technicalities with which they usually abound, and by avoiding all unnecessary or premature constraints upon the memory.
In the course of this Tour, the Author introduces his juvenile companions to the acquaintance of nearly all the nations and tribes of the world, pointing out their situations on the Map, with their natural or artificial boundaries, rivers, mountains, c.and beguiling the wearisomeness of the voyage with some anecdote of peculiarity in their respective customs, or some fact of their natural, civil, or political history.
