A single cab or fly-that was the sole equipage let out on hire in the town of Saltwich.

It had an arrangement whereby it could appear with a pair on very solemn occasions. Usually it wore shafts, between which shuffled one horse.

The fly was painted black, and when engaged for a funeral it had a cushion and vallance of black for the box. The interior was lined with a very deep green, so deep that when the black trimmings were on the box it might be thought that the whole vehicle was plunged in the inkiest depths of woe.
