"The Book of Lofts" presents some of the most spectacular and ingenious residential lofts in London, New York, Paris, Chicago, Berlin, Los Angeles and Milan. Whether in former warehouses, converted schoolhouses, suites of offices, or one-time woodworking shops, the lofts are all singularly inventive examples of contemporary design and living.

A warehouse on the Thames, a furrier"s show-room in New York"s Chelsea district, a printing shop near the Place de la Nation in Paris, a consulate in downtown Los Angeles - these are all former commercial premises that have been converted into living spaces.

Confronted by the challenge of dealing with hundreds or often thousands of feet of raw space, loft dwellers have responded by devising some of today"s most imaginative design solutions.
