The favourable reception of the first edition of this work, and the testimony of pious readers, have given the Author reason to be satisfied that he complied with the request of his hearers, who pleaded for the publication of these Lectures, as exhibiting a more instructive and impressive history of our adorable Redeemer than is to be found in any of those works which have appeared under the title of the life of Christ.

In a series of discourses which occupied the morning of the Lord's day, during almost four years, repetitions must be expected to occur. But the Gospels themselves are known to contain a similar recurrence of the same ideas and expressions, and those who are acquainted with the philosophy of the human mind need not to be informed what advantages may be thence derived.
