Balthasar, Melchior and Caspar, the three kings of the Nativity story, are well known; but what about a fourth king? Kind Ashtar got left behind when his friends set off to see Jesus. He made his own pilgrimage to see the Child, with a boy he had met on the way, and experienced a miracle in the stable that the stories have left out. This is a beautiful retelling of the Nativity story and really brings the tale to life. Gerard Carton worked in residential special education for nearly forty years. Teaching religious education was a rich source for storytelling, using different artefacts to gain and hold the attention of pupils with limited concentration.
