Fr. Marian S. Mazgaj was born in the Polish village of Gaj in 1923. During World War II he joined the Polish Home Army and took part in the combat against German forces in Poland. Mazgaj was educated both in Poland and the United States. In addition to his college degree and five years of theological studies he earned a doctorate in theology at the University of Cracow, a doctorate in canon law at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and a master"s degree in philosophy at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
