Earmarks and Grants are the subject of many debates over how the Government spends taxpayers" money, and that makes them a very hot topic, especially around election time. Part 1 of this book talks about how in 2004 I started working for the Inland Northwest Space Alliance, or INSA, an off-shoot of The University of Montana in Missoula, Montana, and witnessed first-hand the meteoric rise and fall of INSA which ended in ethics audits, media scrutiny, criminal investigations and the disgraceful fall of long-term Senator Conrad Burns". But it didn"t end there. In the second part of the book, I chronicle a??The Gooda?? that happened after I moved on from INSA to see the good that could come out of earmarks and grants through my continued work with NASA and a new project with the National Science Foundation. But, as I always say, with good always comes some bad. And, finally, I witnessed the worst kind of waste, which is described in the last part of the book, "The Ugly", about two earmarks, one funded by Montana Senator Max Baucus and one funded by Montana Congressman Denny Rehberg, that resulted in me personally taking on Datsopoulos, MacDonald & Lind, P.C., which was one of the most powerful law firms in Montana. In the end, I uncovered an unbelievable twist that brought the story full circle and exposed the shocking connections between university officials, non-profit organizations and a for-profit company, which were apparently overlooked by federal investigators, State auditors and the media, allowing the waste to continue until fate intervened. If you have an interest in politics, education, science and technology, you"re sure to enjoy the ups and downs of this wild ride through the eight years of my life contained in this book.
