The Reason I Go Forward W L Jackson

The baby on the front cover is the son of W. L. Jackson, the author of "The Reason I Go Forward." The picture was taken by a neighbor as a cute event in the front yard but the look in the little boy"s eyes inspires the author to write this book. The author remembers growing up in America"s inner city, poor with limited access to the American dream. He wants better for his son and the picture stirs old emotions of helplessness. African-American baby boys are viewed differently than African-American adult males. The book tells a story of an African-American boy growing up in the South. His is very tall and athletic which stereo-types him as college sports athlete not graduate. The NCAA complicates or confuses education and entertainment. The NCAA is decreasing success of young African-American males because the scholarships are not for education. The book stands up for people without a voice, bad behavior and failure is sometimes a cry for help. The book gives readers an insight or a point of view of American democracy from an African-American male perspective. Right is not always clear and fair is rarely inclusive when money is involved.
