DIY SMALL BOAT BUILDING With Stitch & Tape and Clinker Plywood Designs This book is based on 30 years of experience building and designing boats using various methods of boat building and various materials. The methods explained in this manual are Stitch & Tape and Clinker Plywood, great ways for the novice DIY builder to get a boat relatively quickly, cheaply and easily. There are many designs for these methods to choose from, including my own. This manual gives general information on each method which can be used to help build a boat designed for them followed by plans to build a pram dinghy in each method, taking you through the process in a logical, step by step sequence. These ways of building suits boats of a wide range of types and sizes – dinghies, sailing boats, motor boats, canoes etc. Basically, for both methods, the build process involves marking out the planks and other parts on sheets of plywood, cutting them out and assembling them. Once a rigid hull is achieved, it is all glued together using epoxy materials before fitting out, painting and then, its ready for launching. They are very enjoyable ways to get a boat. It is also very rewarding when you see the results of your work on the water. All you need is a little DIY ability, a set of plans (included here), a few sheets of plywood and some epoxy materials. The small dinghy can be built for as little as ?150 using cheap plywood. I have designed and built many boats using these methods and others but I find the Stitch & Tape/Clinker Plywood the best for DIY builders. My plans are used by a charity boat building project I work with for 12 – 18 year olds. I have enjoyed building boats using these methods for many years as part of my business and also, my hobby.
