This art series was inspired by the famous PINK"S eatery, featuring the most delicious hot dogs in all of Los Angeles. The art series started when I met Gloria Pink, one of the proprietors of PINK"S! Her enthusiasm, positive energy, friendly and charismatic personality impressed me very much. It was at that point that the concept of creating this art series began to take hold of me. I have lived in Orange County California for much of my life. However, it was not until I met Gloria Pink that I learned that PINK"S has been a Los Angeles Landmark since 1939, and that it has catered to thousands of people in the entertainment industry including such super stars as Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart, Dennis Miller, Carol Channing, Bill Cosby, Jason Alexander, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, and many others. It was then, that inspired by Gloria"s outgoing personality, I actually took it upon myself to visit the original PINK"S located at the corner of Melrose and La Brea in Hollywood. On a beautiful Sunday morning, I traveled there with a friend to see this internationally renowned establishment and taste its highly acclaimed one of a kind hot dogs. In going there, I was prepared with my camera, just in case, I decided to take photographs. My friend and I made it there very easily, but were happily surprised to find out that PINK"S has a private parking lot next to the eatery, and that they even have a lot attendant that will also valet cars. What convenience I thought. Then, we went to get in line to order. I was prepared for this. PINK"S is so well known in Los Angeles and by so many people near and far, that a long line is to be expected for ordering food. But fortunately for my friend and I, special arrangements had been made for us, so we didn"t have to wait in line. And there was even a table reserved for us with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Well, what else can I say, it all went very well. And what I found out, is that the people who work at PINK"S, are all an extension of Gloria Pink"s kindness, friendliness and wonderful personality. The service was fantastic. And best of all, the hot dogs were delicious. Needless to say, my friend and I had a blast and I can honestly say, this is an experience that I will never forget. And based on everything that I experienced, what I consider -the best- that Los Angeles has to offer, I was inspired to create this art series. And what is it that I"ve created? There is a long history of STILL LIFE paintings dating back hundreds if not thousands of years. What I sought to create here is an extension of this history with a focus on what I believe is contemporary 21st century still life! The food that we eat today, the places where we eat, and everything else related to this, is what, in my opinion, makes a contemporary still life. In addition, I was inspired to use some of the art techniques of the great POP ART Masters such as Andy Warhol. It was, in this way, and by way of channeling that art energy, that this art series and accompanying poetic meanderings came about. It is a beautiful thing to remember our life today! This art seeks to commemorate this time, this era, a??oura?? today!, And via this art, I seek to recognize the people, places and food that are making an impact on our society today. So, it is with all my heart and creative spirit that I offer this art series to you. It is my sincere hope that you will find every bit of it delicious and a pleasure to behold through the eyes, heart, mind and ears.
