Here is a book of photographs that, in the words of their creator, Gusov, "pull together the concept of mass mentality - photographs that examine the way people eat, the tourist eternally behind the camera, the obsession with consumerism. [The album] is an anthropological investigation of contemporary man - who we are, who we have become and how absurd we can be at times".
"Locusts" is divided into eight parts, each of which is presented in the form of a catalogue of human foibles, but in a spirit of warm humour and irony. "Last Resorts", for example, is about holidays; "Dreamless Nightmares" catches people off guard, sleeping in random poses; "Satanic Mills" explores the scientific and technological revolution, and the damage it has wrought on man"s soul; and "Consuming Passions" is about the modern mania for acquisition.
Although the theme of the book is the behaviour of the masses, people transformed into a herd, its subjects are treated gently - not as sinful or vicious, but simply weak. The fruit of five years of work and observation around the world, these brief snatches and moments are a true representation of what humanity does when it thinks that no one is looking.
