In 2002, Joe won the National Society of Newspaper Columnists contest for humor writing in large newspapers.
He has been at The Columbus Dispatch since 1978. He started as the night police reporter and also has worked as a suburban reporter, a copy editor, an assistant Metro editor, Accent editor and a Home & Garden reporter.
He was born in New Castle, Pa., on April 17, 1954, to Catherine and Ben Blundo. An avid reader as a child, he became interested in writing while a student at New Castle High School.
After graduation, he enrolled at WestminsterCollege in New Wilmington, Pa. He left there in 1973 to study journalism at Kent State University. He received his bachelor"s degree from Kent in 1975, the same year he married Deborah Robinson of Westerville, Ohio.
