It is a story, written for the layman, of man"s experiences with the device of money: some of the outstanding experiments that he has tried with it, and the results of the experiments; some of the ideas he has had concerning it; some of the mistakes that he has made about it. It is an attempt to tell the story of money in its social relation, to who and what money has done to human society, the problems which it has solved and which it has created; and to show briefly, in the final chapter, the nature of the main monetary and banking controversy of the present day.
