Alexander Timofeev pushes the freely-associating viewer into dimensions of the imagination that simply call out for the use of psychological descriptive categories to decipher his work. Here too is the link to his overt affinity with the Surrealism (fashion, furniture, etc.) of the early twentieth century, which is it-f inconceivable without the achievements of Sigmund Freud, his development psychoanalysis, the theory of drives and the layered model of the mind - ego, super-ego and id. The concept of the symbol acquired another, additional dimension that later underwent further development with the introduction of the collective unconscious and the archetypes located therein. Timofeev works with a profusion signs and symbols, a toolkit, if you will, that gives the overall composition its magic and helps the viewer along.
