Durer, one of the most eminent figures of the European Renaissance, was trained in the tradition of the German illustrators under Michael Wolgemut in Nuremberg. In his oeuvre, paintings and graphic works are equally important. The dramatic scenes of the Passion and the profound symbolic visions of the Apocalypse reveal a new sense of volume due in part to Italian influence and in part to his own theories on perspective and the proportions of space and form. At first he was close to the humanism of Erasmus, later increasingly committed to the ideals of Luther's Reformation. He was also a great writer, a student of scientific and experimental problems, an inventor of systems of fortification, and an author of treatises on art. His universality puts him on a par with Leonardo da Vinci. Это и многое другое вы найдете в книге Durer (Viorica Guy Marica)
