Flow-mediated vasodilatation in healthy adult Indian male subjects was measured before and after exercise training using a high frequency ultrasound method. The technique of measurement is repeatable and reproducible as shown in this study. It could become a potential tool in diagnostics, as it is noninvasive, safe and nonexpensive. The purpose of this study was to determine whether exercise training produces an enhanced endothelium- mediated vasodilator response in peripheral vessels. Results indicate that endothelium-mediated vasodilatation increased after one month of exercise training at PWC of 65% performed for 30-min three times a week. Further studies are needed to confirm the hypothesis that exercise-training induces enhancement in flow-mediated responses in patients at risk or with cardiovascular disorders. It must also be established that exercise-training can reverse endothelial dysfunction. This will have an important clinical benefit for the patient.
