Habitual alcohol consumption has had shocking effects on agricultural production in Uganda particularly in Itojo Sub county Ntungamo District. A comparative study done in Itojo Subcounty reveals that alcohol consumption has retarded agricultural production. This has therefore enhanced malnutrion, low numbers of food storage facilities like granaries hence the likelihood of food insecurity in the area. Alcohol consumption therefore is detrimental to agricultural production because it retards crop production, causes food insecurity, poverty, malnutrition, diseases, and poor relationships in families and the community at large. The author therefore recommends that government should create awareness about the dangers of habitual alcohol consumption, impose taxes on all alcoholic drinks, control times of bar operations and improve on the vigilance of extension services in the area.
