Assessment for learning (AFL), as opposed to assessment of learning (AOL), is a relatively new trend in education that focuses on learning as an ongoing process rather than a finished product. This book reports on the findings of a study that investigated the possibility of using two AFL techniques, namely student-generated tests and conferencing in EFL grammar classes. The participants were 62 Iranian EFL students at the intermediate level of English language proficiency. The results revealed that the AFL procedures employed in the study had a significant effect on EFL students’ achievement in grammar and improved their attitudes to formal grammar instruction.
