A lightning discharge produces thunder and emits electromagnetic radiation ranging from ELF to visible region and above. This book provides a brief history and introduction of lightning has been presented in chapter 1. The description of the myth and realities of lightning thundercloud and its electrification, types of lightning discharge, energy of a lightning stroke and radio atmospherics are studied in this chapter. Chapter 2 deals with the details of different stages in a lightning discharge. Origins of various electromagnetic radiation generated in lightning has been subjected.
