Leptin, a multifunctional adipokine and pleiotrophic hormone produced by the adipose tissue plays a significant role in pathogenesis of periodontitis. The purpose of this study is to compare the gingival crevicular fluid leptin levels in obese and non-obese individuals with and without Chronic Periodontitis and to lend greater clarity to the role of leptin as a reliable biomarker for Periodontitis. Leptin levels and the role of Leptin in the pathogenesis of periodontitis is still a matter to be addressed and debated. Therefore, this study is designed to assess the concentration of human leptin in GCF during periodontal health and disease and to find out the possible association between BMI and leptin; Further to, explore it’s potential role in the initiation and progression of periodontal disease.
