Flooding is a natural and recurring event for a river or stream. The River Godavari is a major drainage system and largest river of the Peninsular India. It originates in the Western Ghats at Bramhagiri near Trimbakeshwar in the Nashik District of Maharashtra at an elevation of 1294 m above sea level. With a total length of 1465 km of which 694 km is in Maharashtra State.
