Gentlemen,
As a Member of your Society, I address to you the following pages which relate to a subject that you have expressly associated to consider. I have not affected to say in them what has not been said already; for novelty on so plain a question, and which has undergone so long a discussion, is only another name for falsehood or delusion: but I have endeavoured to combine such arguments, and illustrations as my own reflections suggested to me, little regarding whether they have been previously used, or not.
