Excerpt from Delineation of Universal Law: Being an Abstract of an Essay Towards Deducing the Elements of Universal Law, From the First Principles of Knowlwdge, and the Nature of Things; In a Methodical and Connected Series
The Author had been engaged in the great Work, of which this is an Abstract, twenty Years. His Design was to connect the separate Systems of Lawyers and Philosophers, by deducing an intire Body of Laws from Principles of Truth and Knowledge; without leaving Practice wholly out of Sight, nor yet carrying it down to the minuter Reasonings of the Bar, Bench, and Senate, &c. of particular States: But he did not live to finish it. Several Tutors in the Universities, and Persons eminent in the Law, have desired this Abstract might be made public; esteeming it an excellent Plan for Lectures, and an useful Guide both for Students and Proficients in this Science. The curious Reader may meet with further Satisfaction in the Author"s Preface.
