Excerpt from Outlines of Study and Instruction in the Theory and Art of Teaching
These outlines are products of some reading and study, and of some observation and experience while teaching in various grades of schools, and especially while aiding in the instruction of teachers in the Normal School and in other places.
The course is designed to meet the wants of students such as usually seek the advantages of normal teaching and training.
No attempt has been made to formulate a system of educational philosophy, or to produce anything original, or new to advanced students. Ideas, truths, and principles have been sought and freely appropriated from any fruitful source.
The printing is not for the purpose of publication, but for personal convenience and the convenience of classes.
It is in contemplation to publish, at an early day, a tolerably full manual upon the same subject.
