The 13th of May of each year being the day the first English settlers landed at Jamestown is a general holiday.

The beginning of the half-session occurs on the 14th of February of each year.

The session each year ends on the Thursday before the 29th of June, the date of the first written Constitution of Virginia.

The next session begins on the first Thursday in October, which this year will be October 5, 1899.
