Excerpt from Singing in Elementary Schools: A Course of Lectures Delivered to the Teachers Under the Leicester School Board
These lectures were delivered to teachers who had already gone through a course of lessons on the Tonic Sol-fa Method, and who required guidance in applying the knowledge they possessed in the practical work of the class-room. They are published in the hope that their usefulness may be extended to other teachers to whom such lectures are not easily accessible.
The lectures were intended not to supersede, but to accompany such books as Mr. Curwen"s "Standard Course," Mr. J. S. Cunven"s "Companion for Teachers," &c. It is hardly necessary to add that the exercises and suggestions were largely illustrated on the Black-board, Modulator, &c.
