Excerpt from The Health Exhibition Literature, Vol. 9
The Chair was taken by T. Morgan, Esq., F.S.A., Vice-President and Treasurer of the British Arch?ological Association, who, in introducing the lecturer, said his name was already well known in scientific circle in this country for his great knowledge of the northern languages.
Lecture.
In contemplating any question of social or historical bearing we are generally, from the absurd bias of out monkish education, diverted from our own race and nation to trace the origin of all that is good and great in us influences, not only foreign as to blood, speech and thought, but actually most inimical to ourselves and our true progress, as a nation. Whenever the history of our race is attempted, the true ancestors from whom we derive everything in us which is specifically English are shuffled off the stage anyhow, so that we really get rid of them. "Oh,those tiresome Anglo-Saxon!" is the ordinary cry, "Thank God, we have done with them, and can now begin the History of England!"
