Excerpt from Discoveries in the Science and Art of Healing
Dear Sir;
In your Latin poem, printed in the Classical Journal, you have thus truly depicted the baneful effects of phthisis on the human constitution, and its hitherto fatal terminations.
"Decolor hinc hominum facies, et squalida pallent,
Ora situ; subet eff?tis pulmonibus ?ger
Halitus, articulos macies exanguis adurit:
Nee longum tempus, nimia cum mole laborum
Lactantes animas optata morte reponunt:" -
And while dedicating my work to you as a friend to Literature and Science, I am perfectly aware, that in the prevailing spirit of enlightened inquiry, nothing can cover false pretensions from obloquy, or shield error from exposure.
