The Notes in the following pages are, fir it, those of the Author"s Edition in 1746; these are without any signatures so likewise are the Notes"to the Ode on the Highland Superstitions, which are taken from the Edinburgh publication of that piece. The remaining Notes are either selected from the Editions of Langhome and Mrs. Barbauld, or are original Notes of the present Editor; and all these are distinguished by the initials of their respective names.
