Excerpt from The Game Laws: Being a Comprehensive and Familiar Treatise Upon That Subject; Comprising All the Statutes and Resolutions of the Courts Relating to Deer, Hares, Rabbits, Pheasants, Partridges, Grouse, Fish, and Other Objects of Sport; Together With the Qualifications By
In a former impression of the following sheets, an attempt was made to compress into a convenient compass, to arrange in a methodical order, and to elucidate the construction of the various (not to add incongruous) statutes, which had been, from time to time, provided by the legislature for the preservation of the Game of this kingdom. That attempt, the author is happy to learn, was favourably received, which has encouraged him to employ his efforts to render the present edition still more acceptable to the public, by the addition, not only of the more recent statutes, and decisions of the courts, but also of all such collateral matters as seem to be in any way connected with the principal subject; and, in doing this, every care has been used to warrant him in hoping, that it will continue to be considered as a safe and ready Guide to the Country Gentleman and Sportsman.
