Excerpt from The Wonder of War in the Holy Land
The Author desires to express his acknowledgment of the courtesy of certain officers attached to the British Expeditionary Force in Mesopotamia, who have given some interesting sidelights on the campaign. Acknowledgment also is made of the assistance received from three books on Mesopotamia and Palestine: "British Campaigns in the East, 1914-1918," by Edmund Dane; "The War in the Cradle of the World" by Eleanor Franklin Egan; and "By Desert Ways to Badgad" by Louise Jebb. Acknowledgment is made to Blackwood"s Magazine, for quotations from many articles of the highest importance and authority on the Eastern question published during the war. For illustrations the author is mainly indebted to the Sketch and the Illustrated London News, both of London, which had special artists in the East during the arduous campaigns of the Great War.
