Excerpt from Principles of the Common Law, Intended for the Use of Students and the Profession
The seventh edition of this work being exhausted, I have lost no time in preparing a new one. Although only a little over two years and a half have elapsed since the last edition was published, there have been a great many cases decided during that period requiring consideration, and I have made such alterations as have been rendered necessary, and have added many of these cases, and eliminated some that were before quoted. I have also dealt briefly with the Workmen"s Compensation Act, 1897. Generally, I have thoroughly revised the work, which I trust will be found to be improved in many matters of detail, and brought thoroughly up to date. I have to express my thanks - as was the case with the last edition - to my friend and colleague Mr. Charles Thwaites, for having kindly perused the proof sheets, and made various valuable suggestions. To many of my pupils I am also indebted for criticisms and suggestions, made whilst I have been going through the book with them.
