Excerpt from Worship in the Christian Church: Sermons Preached at All Saints Margaret Street
Only six of these sermons (III. to VIII.) were delivered as a consecutive course.
The others were preached at various times, and are only connected by their general subject.
Consequently there may be found in the volume certain repetitions of statement and even some repetitions of language. I have made no attempt to eliminate such repetitions; first, because those who heard the sermons will desire to read them, as far as may be, in their original form; and secondly, because I wish to avoid the pretension of putting forth anything like a digested treatise on Christian worship.
The sermons must be taken simply as an example of the way in which a busy parish priest calls his congregation to join him in studying a fundamental subject of religion, using materials ready to hand, and accessible to all.
