Few decades have passed since Fraternities became an active force in the undergraduate life of American colleges, and like every young institution of far-reaching effect they were forced to combat with unreasoning prejudice and ignorance. Persecuted by college faculties, and opposed by parents who saw in the element of secrecy a cloak to all manner of vice, the societies continued to progress silently but irresistibly until, sweeping away every obstacle by the sheer force of their raison a etre they became as firmly established as the colleges or universities of which they were part.
Creek Letter Fraternities are now recognized, approved and encouraged by the authorities of all liberal and advanced Institutions of learning in the United States. It is needless to speak here in defense of sacred bonds of brotherhood which none but a fraternity man can comprehend and which by him are never undervalued. Through no other means could a student satisfy his instinctive desire for sympathetic comradeship, close intimacy and enduring friendship: and how adequately the Fraternity has fulfilled its purpose is best attested by the loving memories and imperishable loyalty of members whose college days lie far in the past. Whether the influence thus exerted is for good or for evil is eloquently answered by the achievements of Creek Letter Men in every field of human activity.
