Excerpt from The Germania and Agricola of Caius Cornelius Tacitus: With Notes
The plan and purpose of this work, which has been so widely used as a college text-book for more than thirty years, arc too well known to require explanation. It will only be necessary to state in a few words what has been done to improve the present edition.
The text has been carefully revised and corrected after comparison with the most improved recent editions. The Introductions have been enlarged and enriched with new materials, drawn largely from such sources as Maine's Treatise upon Ancient Law, Waitz's Deutsche Verfassungsgeschichte, and various other works upon Teutonic and Celtic antiquities.
