Mothers and fathers fail in the discipline of infant children; teachers in secondary schools are classed as successful or unsuccessful according to discipline; university professors have been known to lose much in efficiency through inability to maintain order in their classes. Many teachers think they have no questions of discipline; in their case tact and experience have made the work of governing frictionless, but no school controls itself. A skillful driver guides a well-trained horse almost without effort, but he drives. So do teachers that teach. The questions of discipline involve physiology, psychology, sociology, and common sense. Experience teaches expensively. Suggestions teach inexpensively. This is a little, book of suggestions with reasons.
