Excerpt from The Poems of Tukarama, Vol. 3
The appearance of this third volume, like that of the second, is due to the liberality of the Bombay Government, who have contributed half the cost of its production. And once more we offer our thanks to the Christian Literature Society.
The principles on which the translation has been made remain the same. In this volume, however, many abhangas on familiar themes have been omitted, and many easy lines from other abhangas.
The index is continued. We regret to find that though there are many editions of Tuka, there is not one which follows the numbering of the Indo-Prakash edition, which is, however, much the best. It is now out of print. Our index is therefore not of much use - but this is only a specimen of the inconveniences which beset any attempt to deal with orientalia.
