Excerpt from Outlines of the History of Ireland: From the Earliest Times to 1905
This little book is intended mainly for use in Schools; and it is accordingly written in very simple language. But I have some hope that those of the general public who wish to know something of the subject, but are not prepared to go into details, may also find it useful. As it is meant for reading, not cramming, I have put it in the form of a consecutive narrative, avoiding statistics and scrappy disconnected statements. My aim has been to make it readable and interesting, so far as its extreme brevity admitted; and to give the reader, whether child or adult, a clear view, in small space, of the leading features of Irish History. The book is an abridgment of my "Child's History of Ireland"; and the tone and treatment all through will be found I hope fair and moderate.
