1. Punjab, or 'Land of Five Rivers": Origin of Caste. - History begins in India with the Aryan conquest of the Punjab. These Aryans were more or less related to Persia, and are called Vedic, because they worshipped the gods of the oldest Yeda. They were a fair-complexioned people, who settled as colonists in the valleys of the Indus and its five tributaries, namely, the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beyas, iud Sutlej.
