Excerpt from Sub-C?lum: A Sky-Built Human World
Of the people of Sub-C?lum were not happy it was their own fault. Their situation was the most favorable under the sun. Earth and sky smiled upon them. The climate was genial and salubrious. Extremes in temperature were not frequent, and atmospheric violences so rare as to be historical. Seasons of rain and seasons of drouth, to devastate and desiccate, were not known. Forests of beauty and grandeur supplied every variety and quality of timber, for ornament and utility. Mountains of sublimity and valleys of fertility abounded. Large streams ran by large towns. Lakes bordered villages and villas. Ocean provided cities with safe and commodious havens. Gold and silver in the mountains lay in strata convenient to be operated.
