Excerpt from The Collected Papers of John Westlake on Public International Law
When, soon after the death of Professor Westlake, the first edition of his Chapters on the Principles of International Law was exhausted, the Syndics of the University Press resolved, instead of simply bringing out a second edition of this work, to publish a Collection of all the smaller contributions of Westlake to Public International Law and to embody therein a new edition of the Chapters on the Principles of International Law. With the consent of Mrs Westlake I undertook the task of editing the present Collection, which comprises all the English papers of Westlake on the subject, with the exception of book reviews. Westlake's French Papers on Public International Law, which for the most part have appeared in the Revue de Droit International et de Legislation Comparee (see below, Appendix, pp. 678-686), had, for want of space, to be excluded from the present volume; they are, however, easily accessible, since the Revue de Droit International et de Legislation Comparee is in the hands of all those interested in International Law.
