Excerpt from The Child and Religion, Vol. 11: Eleven Essays
This book is the outcome of a friendly discussion, at a deacons' meeting, on the place of the child in the Christian Church. Several children had recently, as the result of attending services for young people, responded to the claims of the Saviour's love, and had expressed a desire to become His disciples. Now the question arose among the officers of the Church as to the proper attitude of the Church towards these children. Should they be admitted forthwith to the Lord's Table? Should they be enrolled as members of the Church without delay? Had they a right to Church privileges by virtue of their personal devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ?
