Excerpt from On Right and Wrong
Before issuing another edition of this book, I have looked through such notices of it, in the pubic prints, as have come in my way. I am always anxious to benefit, and to let my readers benefit, by any criticisms of my writings. And in preparing second editions of my former works, I have had to thank various reviewers for enabling me to correct errors, whether of the author or of the press, and to remove misconceptions. As regards this present treatise On Right and Wrong, it has been otherwise. The very competent writers who have dealt with it in the Fortnightly Review, the Nineteenth Century, the Spectator, the Saturday Review, the Guardian, the Pall Mall Gazette - to mention no other journals - and whose kindly and generous eulogies I could wish had been better merited, have not favoured me with suggestions for its improvement.
