In writing the following pages I have been actuated by the desire to draw closer together two classes of workers in the great field Biology, the Practical Breeder and the Scientific Biologist.

After some years of work as a student of pure Science, and with some knowledge of the methods and the needs of Breeders, I have formed a firm conviction that the Practical Breeder will gain inestimable advantage from the right application of Science to the industry with which he is concerned.
