Excerpt from Lectures on the American Eclectic System of Surgery
Hill's Eclectic Surgery has held a high position in the opinion of our physicians, as a strictly practical work, which could be placed in the hands of a student with the certainty that he would not forget the paramount importance of remedial means in the exaggerated luster usually given to Operative Surgery. As a guide to the successful practice of surgery, it has gained a well-deserved and lasting reputation. It has been out of print for eight years, yet there has been a constant demand for its revision; and it is to supply this want that the present edition is published.
The Editor has not felt at liberty to make any change in the text, but has added such notes as seemed necessary to bring it up to the present time. In addition, a lengthy treatise on the Venereal Disease has been added, which, he hopes, will fully meet the wants of our practitioners on this subject.
