Excerpt from Surgical Observations on Tumours: With Cases and Operations
Having been in the habit of examining and preserving the tumours presented by surgical operations, and having thus made a considerable collection of these objects, I was naturally led to add some lectures, on this branch of surgical science, to my usual course. After doing this, it occurred to me that it might be useful to my profession in this country to commit these lectures to writing, for public use. My plan was to have given place in them to the facts I had collected, and to these only; on the ground that the generalities, which naturally made a part of a surgical course, would be found more thoroughly elaborated and better displayed in works already published.
