1. Define a crime.
A. A crime is any act or omission prohibited by public law for the protection of the public, and made punishable by the State in a judicial proceeding in its own name. Clark & Marshall on the Daw of Crimes, 2d Ed. i.
A crime may be generally defined as the commission or omission of an act which the law forbids or commands under pain of a punishment to be imposed by the State in a proceeding in its own name.
