Excerpt from The Life of the Spirit: An Introduction to Philosophy
In the present volume philosophy is not regarded as a known quantity, and no attempt is made to impart it to the individual by a comparative survey of its different departments; but it is treated as a problem - the problem that in it reality continually becomes in the course of the centuries. The book re presents a particular view of the nature of philosophy, and undertakes to show that it must be conceived in this way if it is to be equal to the demands which are made upon it by the life of mankind, and particularly by the present situation.
