Excerpt from Rowing and Track Athletics
The preparation of this account of the development of American rowing has been attended with no little difficulty because of the wide area that it covers and the scattered and fragmentary nature of the sources. The greater portion of the information has been gathered by personal contact with and by letters from the men who were active in rowing during the periods in question, while the remainder has been taken from the contemporary sporting periodicals and the newspapers. I shall appreciate the noting of any inaccuracies.
